The Baby Registry I Wish I Would've Made

Updated: 3 days ago

My personal approach to lower-tox living is not all or nothing. I think everyone has certain things that they prioritize, and it’s not always the same. I personally choose to prioritize the things that go in and on our body first. Food, breastmilk, shots/medications, water, and air. And then skincare, soaps, the cleaners we use in our home, clothing, diapers, etc.. not everyone can or even wants to try to live a perfectly non toxic/holistic life and I think the stress of trying to be perfect in every area is just as damaging as some fast food now and then or Tylenol once or twice a year. Organic cotton may not be in the budget but cotton can be! I invested in natural fiber blankets and mattress covers etc but the playpen is an Amazon brand because she rarely spends time in it.

Look for flame retardant free car seats, clothing, and  mattresses. Check for green guard gold certified as well, this means it’s free of most harmful chemicals often used in cheap items. If buying lotions or soaps or detergents, opt for at least scent free. For infants, especially newborns, a lot of things can make them uncomfortable as they transition from the perfect little warm world they were in for 9 months to the cold, loud, bright, fast paced life they suddenly arrived in. Approaching their problems with this mindset can often be the easiest way to solve a problem. What feels natural to them? What would feel biologically safe? Look for the cause, not just a solution. Baby eczema? Often we’re told to apply lotion but maybe it’s the soap causing it. Gas? We give gripe water but maybe it’s the brand of formula or a tense stressed stomach. Diaper rash? We apply pastes but maybe it’s the wipes or diapers.

I have reached out to some of the companies that I buy from for discount codes and affiliate links etc., so keep in mind I may earn commission on some of the items listed. If you purchase through my links, I appreciate it so much!

Common items that we didn’t use: swaddles (limits outgrowing the startle reflex), headband bows (don’t allow the cranium to breathe), tummy time gear ( a blanket on the floor and a book or stuffy is just as good), containers  like walkers or swings  (most hinder development if used often or consistently), soap and shampoo  (babies rarely need soap), sound machine (I did eventually invest in a good fan), pacifiers (most hinder airway and jaw development and cause large issues later) a crib or bassinet (we did borrow a bassinet for a little that she’d lay in while I showered or grabbed a meal), strollers (baby wearing is so much easier)

Things that we prioritized: chiropractic care (a relaxed stable baby is a healthy , “easy” baby), good food, ability to rest and bond, and a handful of quality products over many of the popular brands that are often unnecessary. This resulted in a significantly easier start to motherhood, a happy baby, and less clutter.
