Winter Car Prep- Southern Edition

Alright Southern belles, we've got the dreaded annual sleet about to hit. Here in South Texas that mostly means several days of intermittent power and very cold mud. Luckily, we live outside of the city/apartment stuff so we've got a generator and prepped house. However, a woman's gotta drive sometimes so doublecheck before you leave, and add this to the stack of three beverages, books, bags, mail, kids, and other projects you're already taking out to the car.
In about a month and a half we'll be back to sunscreen and bug spray instead, hang in there!
This is especially important if you're traveling interstate at all. Our roads don't get cold weather maintenance, we all know that. Even if you're not involved in a pile up or slide off the road, chances are you could be stuck in traffic, for some it can be HOURS. As a mom, having everything you need to keep your kids warm and alive for ten hours, or the capability to hike them several miles on foot, is reassuring.
Top your gas tank off before freezes hit, if traveling, don't let it get below half full if at all possible.
You should already have a basic med kit in your vehicle, if not now's the time to put something together. (Include a flashlight or headlamp) Strap it to the bag that holds your extra winter supplies if you need to.
Cliff Bars, Jerky, something high fat and high carb for energy
WATER, just throw a gallon in.
Portable Jump Box or Jumper Cables
Blanket
Stocking Cap/Extra Waterproof Coat/Gloves/Boots
Cat Litter and Shovel if you're far enough north to warrant sliding off the roads
Rope or chain for towing, again if far enough north
Some sort of comms, walkies, Meshtastic, etc
Remember, some houses in Texas the other year were out of power for over ten days. Prep now, you'll be good. Water, food, blankets. Charge everything up and find an alternative heat source NOW if you reply on the grid entirely.
